Glossary of Expressions Used
-
defendant's costs order
- If we are successful and you are acquitted or the case is withdrawn or discontinued, we are able to make an application for a defendants costs order on your behalf from Central Funds which if successful means any legal costs you have expended with us will be reimbursed by the court and your defence will have been undertaken at no cost to you.
-
fronting
- The practice of one person (usually a parent) using their own no-claims bonus to attempt to reduce the insurance cost of a less experienced driver (usually a son or daughter). The policy is held in the more experienced driver's name with the other driver listed as a named driver who is the sole or predominant user of the vehicle. They represent a higher risk to the insurer as a new, inexperienced driver. Should an accident occur it is quite likely the insurer would argue that the policy should have been in their name and refuse to pay out on the policy.
-
self insure
- Paying the other party's claim directly yourself rather than going through your insurer thus preserving your no claims bonus and not suffering a policy excess. Often a good idea for lower value claims.
