Avoiding points through a speed awareness course

by Conrad Murray last modified 2007-04-25 04:57

I have today received a NIP for doing 36 in a 30 zone. I was on a motorbike after having passed my test last August and have been riding it since (I do drive a car on a daily basis for business). Is there anything I can do to avoid getting the points on my licence as I have 6 already and generally stick vehemently to speed limits?

You need to identify yourself as responsible or you risk a possible Section 172 offence for failing to identify the driver which brings an automatic three points and a higher fine.

Then you need to apply to take a speed awareness course if one is available in your area. These are available if the speeding was less than 38mph in a 30mph limit.

There is a cost to this (£90 at present) but taking the course means you will not incur either the fine or the penalty points under the fixed penalty notice.
