Caught speeding in Austria: can points be added to my UK licence

I have been caught speeding near Linz in Austria in a hire car, I was caught by a camera. Will I receive points on my UK licence, and how much can I expect the fine to be?

Penalty points received abroad cannot be applied to a UK licence. Although the Austrian authorities are likely to write to you, based on the information provided by the hire company, enforcement of relatively small sums internationally is problematical.

Be aware though there may be an enforcement bond written into your car hire contract that if you default on fine payment in Austria they may deduct the amount from your credit card and pay it on to the police. In addition the hire company may add a handling charge itself for dealing with traffic violations.
