I have been caught allegedly speeding. Is there any law saying the police have to have clocked me for a certain amount of time or can they just use what the radar gun says?

I was driving on the motorway two months ago and there was a police car parked at the side of the motorway. At the time I didn't realise how fast I was going, but when I saw them I slowed right down and passed them doing 70mph. The police then followed me and pulled me over and said they clocked me at 101mph. I have now received a Summons to Court. Is there any law saying they have to have clocked me for a certain amount of time or can they just use what the radar gun says?

They can just use the reading from the radar. Minimum distances for speed checks relate to things such as vascar devices and follow checks. This is a different method of speed detection.

You are at risk of a discretionary ban of up to 56 days for this speed.
