I passed my driving test years ago but do I class as a Probationary Driver under the New Drivers Act for other vehicles if I take subsequent tests to add categories (such as HGV or motorcycles) to my licence?
I have held a full UK driving licence for approx 15 years. I have recently passed my Class 2 HGV test and just wanted to clarify if I will now fall under the terms of the New Drivers Act whereby a 2 year "probation period" seems to be put in place.
The New Drivers Act applies to drivers in the first two years after they pass their first applicable driving test.
If you subsequently add classes of vehicles to those you are permitted to drive then the probationary period does not apply to them and you would be classed as a full licence holder whatever class of vehicle you were driving.
So even though you only recently passed your Class 2 HGV you would have become a Full Licence holder immediately on the basis of your previous driving experience.
