My friend drove over what he thought was black rubbish bags and clothes but unfortunately it turned out to be a vagrant. What is the likely outcome of this incident?

My friend was leaving the underground car park of the apartment block where he lives when he drove over what he thought was black rubbish bags and clothes and drove off. Unfortunately it turned out to be a vagrant. I later saw the vagrant being treated by paramedics and he had minor cuts only. It was at this point the police turned up, and when talking to witnesses I realised it was my friend who had been involved. I immediately telephoned him to alert him and he in turn telephoned the police to leave his details. Since then, although they have returned his calls, they have not been to see him yet. What is the likely outcome of this incident?

He may be prosecuted for driving without due care and attention, failing to stop and failing to report an accident.

We can help if this happens. We have defended a very similar case recently where a drunk woman lay in the road behind our client's car when he was reversing. All allegations were withdrawn by the CPS at court and our client got his legal expenses back in full. Get your friend to contact us immediately if he gets a summons.
