Cyclist run over on footpath by Conrad Murray — last modified 2007-03-18 12:47
My au-pair uses my spare cycle and was riding along the path last week as she felt was safer to do so (no cycle paths and this part of road cars park along sides and through the middle). A car turned in from the road to cross the lowered footpath to enter a gym car park and struck her. My bike is now in 2 pieces and she has bruises to her legs. I had to take time off work getting quotes, visiting police. We are going through driver's insurance company. Will they be liable for full 100% even though she was cycling slowly on a path?
Cyclist hit by car that failed to stop: police don't pursue enquiries by Murdo Maguire — last modified 2007-02-10 07:37
Whilst cycling I was hit (lowish speed) by a car that failed to stop, I gave the police registration number and vehicle description along with a short driver description (gender, approx age, hair colour). Upon enquiry I have found that they didn't so much as talk to the owner of the vehicle concerned. Is there any action I can take against the police by way of complaint since I'm not sure they did their job adequately.
Cyclist responsible for collision which writes off car: who pays? by Murdo Maguire — last modified 2007-01-16 06:49
My 16 year old son was involved in a road accident when he was riding his bicycle when he pulled out of a junction on to a main road in the path of an oncoming car. Luckily the car driver saw him and swerved so that the bike and my son were given a glancing blow rather than a head on smack. The car, a L reg Cavalier, has been damaged so as to be uneconomically repairable. My son got away with superficial scratches and bruises. My question is, what is my position with regard to compensation to the car owner? The accident was my son's fault, but as is perfectly legal, he was not insured. It does not seem fair for the cost of the accident to go on to the car driver. What is the legal position?
Road claim question: when a motorist becomes a pedestrian by Conrad Murray — last modified 2006-12-20 09:37
Some time ago a colleague of mine collided with a cyclist in heavy fog. He got out of his car to see if the cyclist was OK and was run over by another motorist who didn’t stop. Neither he nor the cyclist got the other driver registration number and he got nothing having been off work for several months. Although my firm has legal cover (as I discovered when I had an accident recently), my colleague was told it didn’t cover him in these circumstances. Why? TP, Norwich
